Question 1

List your judicial experience (courts and years)

I have served as a municipal court magistrate since 2010 at the Elyria Municipal Court. Over the years I have been given increased responsibilities and now manage and oversee a large docket consisting of non-jailable traffic offenses and certain criminal misdemeanor offenses. I oversee these cases from the initial appearance through pretrials, trials, and sentencing hearings. In addition, I participate in Recovery Court, the court’s specialized docket and I am the judicial officer who oversees these cases when the Recovery Court judge is unavailable. I also fill in for other judicial officers at the court when they are unavailable. When covering, I will sit in for the civil magistrate and hear eviction and small claims cases and will handle criminal arraignments if a judge is unavailable. Since 2018 I have also served as the magistrate at North Ridgeville Mayor’s Court and handle arraignments, pretrials, and pleas for criminal and traffic misdemeanors.

Question 2

What non-judicial legal experience qualifies you to be a judge?

Prior to serving as a magistrate, I served as court-appointed counsel for indigent criminal defendants at the trial and appellate level. I also now serve as an assistant prosecutor. In addition, my private practice is a civil practice and I have managed a successful law firm for 15 years. Finally, I have served on boards and served my community through volunteerism. These experiences, in addition to my judicial experience, make me the candidate with the most well-rounded and relevant experience. I have acquired the tools necessary to manage a courthouse budget and staff, to handle the types of cases that go through municipal court, and to see all sides of the various cases that go through the court.
