What non-judicial legal experience qualifies you to be a judge?
In my 30 years as a lawyer, I have both civil and criminal litigation experience. That experience has prepared me to deal with issues that arise in the courtroom and rule on objections and procedural matters. As a former Chief Municipal Prosecutor, I dealt on a daily basis with the very type of cases over which a municipal court judge must preside. Additionally, as a former municipal court acting magistrate and as a former hearing examiner for Springfield City Code Enforcement, I have experience presiding over hearings and drafting findings of fact and conclusions of law. I have, on multiple occasions, been vetted for judicial temperament, ethics and competence by the Clark County Republican Central Committee and submitted to the Governor for consideration of a judicial appointment. Moreover, I have undergone training and spent time observing and participating in drug court operations, so that I will be ready to begin a much-needed drug court docket for the citizens of Clark County.

Why are you running for this particular court seat?
During my time as as Assistant Clark County Prosecutor it became apparent that illegal drug use was the driving factor behind the vast majority of our crime, often with the same defendants re-offending over and over again. Per capita, the problem has gotten about as bad in Clark County, as it is anywhere in the country. The damage is not only felt by victims of crime, but by the community, families and, particularly, children of addicts. It used to be a problem that you just read about in the newspaper, but now the problem is in every geographic and socio-economic neighborhood, and practically everyone sees it. Those with young children should be terrified. Fortunately, drug courts don't merely only punish crime and require treatment, but they specifically address all of the underlying issues that lead to addiction and crime in the first place, such as mental health, education, homelessness, unemployment, etc. When all of those issues are addressed, defendants can actually get off of illegal drugs and become contributing members of our society. Because they work, drug courts are encouraged by the Ohio Supreme Court as a proven innovation at reducing recidivism. I am running to answer the call of the Ohio Supreme Court and finally get a drug court started here in Clark County.
