Question 2

What non-judicial legal experience qualifies you to be a judge?

I have litigated cases at all levels of the state and federal courts in Ohio including the Fifth District Court of Appeals, the Supreme Court of Ohio and the Supreme Court of the United States.  My strengths are legal research and writing.  My experience as a Lecturer at Ohio State University's Moritz College of Law has sharpened my analytical skills, and my experience as an Arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association has given me experience handling and deciding cases as part of a three-arbitrator panel.

Question 3

Why are you running for this particular court seat?

In Ohio's state court system, someone who is dissatisfied with how a trial court handled their case has only one second chance: appeal to the court of appeals.  That person deserves to have someone who is open-minded, fair and thorough decide their appeal, because the Supreme Court of Ohio does not accept most appeals for further review.  I have lived in Licking County for the past 25 years, which is one of the 15 counties in the Fifth District.  I have deep roots in several counties in the district, including Morgan County, where my grandfather grew up, Fairfield County, where I attended elementary school (Canal Winchester) and Delaware County, where my wife and I met during college at Ohio Wesleyan University.  My legal career has been successful and rewarding to this point, so I want to give back to the people of the Fifth District by serving on their Court of Appeals.
