Question 1

List your judicial experience (courts and years)

Ohio Fifth District Court of Appeals, Judge, 2013 to present.

Licking County Common Pleas Court, Domestic Relations Division, Judge, 2005-2013.

In addition, as a common pleas court judge I acted as a visiting judge in various other counties. As a court of appeals judge, I have acted as a visiting judge in various other Ohio Appllate Courts as well as the Ohio Supreme Court.

Question 2

What non-judicial legal experience qualifies you to be a judge?

I have been working in the legal system for over 34 years. I have made my career in the law my professional focus during that time.

I believe my years as an attorney provided me with a great deal of practical, procedural and substantive experience in the practice of law. I believe that I have a strong understanding of the law and have great experience as a trial lawyer.

My time as a deputy clerk of court, as a law clerk and as a practicing attorney has given me a solid practical and common sense perspective on the legal system and our Courts.

I believe my background has given me a strong foundation for my time as a judge.

Question 3

Why are you running for this particular court seat?

I believe that their are certain principles that Judges need to follow to promote justice in our courts.

First, everyone must be treated with dignity and respect. Judges set the tone for their courtroom, their courthouse, and for the system in general. Judge need to be leaders in this regard.

Next cases should be decided fairly and impartially and in a timely manner. It is important that matters are resolved with the proper attention and decisiveness.

Finally judges need to respect and follow the constitution and the law. The legislative branch makes the law, the executive branch executes the law and the judicial branch merely and humbly interprets the law. Judges should not legislate from the bench.

During my almost 18 years as a judge, I have worked hard to follow these principles. I will continue to do so if re-elected to the Fifth District Court of Appeals.
