I also litigated before Administrative Discharge Boards and federal agencies such as the Merit Systems Protection Board. I was promoted to Captain and was appointed Special Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Texas, which involved prosecuting crimes in federal court. In 1998 I transferred to Wright-Patterson AFB and served as a Trial Attorney with the Air Force Contract Litigation Group, defending the Air Force against contractor claims in the Armed Services Board of Contract Appeals. In 2001 I joined the law firm Sebaly Shillito & Dyer and worked mostly on complex civil litigation. I became a partner in 2007 and added several areas of focus, including government contracting and creditor rights. In 2022 the governor appointed me as a judge for the Court of Common Pleas of Montgomery County.

Abbreviated Candidate Answers

Judge, Common Pleas Court of Montgomery County (2022 to the Present)

Question 2

What non-judicial legal experience qualifies you to be a judge?

My legal career has been incredibly varied, including both criminal law experience and civil litigation, including complex, multi-party litigation. It is important for a judge to have wide prior experience because litigants as well as the public depend on judges who possess not only knowledge, but wisdom, and wisdom usually comes only through experience. In addition to several decades as a working lawyer, I've been very involved with our local bar association, other parts of the government such as the library system, and civic organizations including charities.
